Three students from Kelowna are heading to the national competition for Skills Canada.
The Okanagan College students won gold medals at the province competition, which was held in Abbotsford on April 13. Those gold medals gave them a ticket to Moncton, New Brunswick to compete on a national level.
In the areas of Electronics, Aerospace Technology and Automotive Service, Okanagan College students came out on top.
Zachary Andrews, a second year student won gold in the Electronics category. Spencer Humphries took home first Aerospace Technology. Humphries is a first-year student in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineering M License program.
The final gold medal went to Aaron Schmidt, a level 4 apprentice. He came out on top during the Automotive Service category.
“Each one of our students took the competition preparation and practices very seriously,” mentioned Jaime Bloomfied, the Automotive Service instructor. “They had great attitudes and were very motivated. During the competition they shook the nerves off quickly and performed beautifully – I couldn’t be prouder.”
At the end of the provincial competition, Okanagan College was awarded 11 medals in total.
Andrews, Humphries and Schmidt will head to Moncton, where they will compete from June 5-8.
