The City of Kelowna is warning hikers and outdoor enthusiasts about a recent bear sighting at Knox Mountain.

Bear sightings aren’t unusual in the park this time of year and signs are up warning residents.

According to the City, people should prepare for a bear encounter and avoid them at all costs.

You can do so by staying alert, travelling in groups, making noise and keeping your dogs leashed at all times while on the trails.

Bears are most aggressive when defending their food or their cubs. If you see a bear, you can reduce potential conflicts by steering clear of the animal.

Residents are asked to notify either the Conservation Office at 1-877-356-2029 or the RCMP at 250-762-3300 if they feel threatened by a bear.
