Some Kelowna residents are being urged to boil their water before consumption.
On Wednesday night, the South East Kelowna Irrigation District issued a boil water notice for users on the surface water system.
The order will remain in effect until further notice, according to the service providers.
The boil water notice has been put in place because a water sample taken on May 23 has tested positive for microbes.
Tests taken May 24 were all negative for microbes and chlorine residuals are at the required range throughout the distribution system.
Interior Health has put out the advisory, as they await results from additional microbial tests taken May 25, which will be available May 26.
According to the Irrigation District, they expect the boil water notice to be called off on Thursday.
In the meantime, the public must boil tap water used for drinking, brushing teeth, or rinsing ready-to-eat-foods, at a rolling boil for one minute.
Owners of all public facilities must put boil water notices at all sinks or drinking water fountains or turn them off, if possible.
According to the Irrigation District, Interior Health has been consulted and is fully involved in this notification.
