It may have been a quiet May long weekend for RCMP in Kelowna, but around the province enforcement officers were kept hopping.
Conservation officers and natural resource officers together issued more than 250 enforcement actions, many for fire-related violations. The province had increased patrols over the long weekend through vehicle and foot patrols and from May 20 to 23 a number of warnings, arrests, 24-hour licence suspensions, and seizures were reported.
Of those 250 enforcement actions, several were for illegal hunting and fishing, off-road vehicle use, loaded firearms in vehicles, littering, and illegal bonfires, campfires and fire violations. Tickets were also issued for damage to the environment, unlawful use of recreation sites, and prohibited and unlicensed drivers.
The increased presence of officers and park rangers helped discourage illegal activities over the long weekend, and helped prevent larger incidents from occurring.
