Cental Kitchen + Bar and Central Sportsclub on Ellis Street were evacuated on Friday because huge flames were coming out of the building.

The flames were caused by a fire being set to the building's gas meter. Platoon Capt. Kelly Stephens said when crews arrived at the facility, just after 11:30 a.m., they could see flames coming from the back rear of the building.

"We had flames coming from it. They quickly shut off the meter, isolating the fire and extinguishing it. We have no extension into the building, no one was hurt and everything is actually under control."

No one know how the fire started at this time, which means it’s being deemed suspicious. RCMP and fire investigators were arriving on the scene just before 1 p.m. to investigate.

Three engines with 12 personnel, a rescue truck with two people, FortisBC, RCMP and BC ambulance service all responded to the scene.
