Kelowna RCMP is looking for a suspect after receiving a report of an attempted child luring in Rutland on Wednesday.

According to police, at 8:08 p.m. they responded to a report of a possible attempted luring of a small child from Ben Lee Park. Police learned that a mother and her child were playing in the park when an unknown man began speaking to her daughter and another boy.

The mother watched as the young boy went to his parents. The man then gestured to her daughter with both hands while saying “come here, come here” and the child yelled for her mother.

The woman confronted the man who ran from the area. RCMP officers flooded the area in search of the man, who was last seen running towards Franklyn Road.

He is described as a mix of Caucasian and South Asian, in his mid-30’s to early 40’s and at least six-feet tall. He had a medium athletic build, was approximately 160 pounds with short black hair, he was clean cut with a chin strap beard and spoke with an accent. He was last seen wearing a black shirt with a white logo, bright blue board shorts and sneakers.

The man also has a tattoo on his right forearm, possibly of writing which went all around his forearm.

“Investigators are interested in speaking with the family of the young boy who may have also spoken with this man, as well as any other witnesses who may have information to assist in this investigation,” said Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey. “The RCMP would also like to urge the man himself, if he is reading this, to come forward and speak with police.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Kelowna RCMP General Investigation Section (GIS) at 250-762-3300. Remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, leaving a tip online at www.crimestoppers.net or by texting your tip to CRIMES (274637) ktown.
