The Okanagan Pride Society (OPS) has announced that MP Stephen Fuhr will be the Grand Marshal for the 2016 pride march in Kelowna.

The OPS said it chose Fuhr as the Grand Marshal because of his commitment to the country, first as a pilot in the Royal Canadian Air Force and now as a Member of Parliament with the Liberal Party.

“He is supportive of our community and has shown his sense of commitment when he switched from being ‘a long time Conservative’ in his words, to become a member of the Liberal party when he realized he did not agree with what Harper’s government was doing,” said OPS in a statement.

The We Are One Pride March begins at Stuart Park on Aug. 13 and goes to City Park where the Okanagan Pride Festival is held. The march starts at 11 a.m. with participants encouraged to arrive by 10:45 a.m. Both the march and festival are free to attend and open to all ages.
