Yogis in Kelowna are raising money for women through a peaceful practice.

Lululemon athletica Kelowna is hosting a candlelit yoga session by donation and all money will go to Destitute 2 Destiny.

The foundation has a mandate of lifting the poor out of poverty with a special focus on disadvantaged Dalit women and children of India. The money from Kelowna yogis will be put towards purchasing sewing machines for Dalit women.

According to a Facebook post, the sewing machines will help them make reusable sanity wear so girls can stay in school. Destitute 2 Destiny says that 23 per cent of girls in India have to drop out of school because they don't have sanitary pads. For $15 dollars, girls are equipped with a kit of reusable pads and liners that will last for three years. For $500, a woman could begin her own business with a sewing machine and materials to make and sell feminine hygiene kits and other items. Not only would that sewing machine help the woman and her family, but also other women. That's the goal for Kelowna, to reach the amount to purchase a sewing machine.

Kelowna’s Emilie Mann will be guiding the practice and Jonny Karroll will play the guitar during the practice. Yogis can get ready for a peaceful, yet powerful class that will be full of good karma.

The class will start on Sunday at 7: 30 p.m. on Sunday at Lululemon’s new community space attached to the store, Pivot 135.
