Ikea is expanding like crazy in Canada but Okanagan customers are left waiting for good news.

On Tuesday, Ikea announced the launch of a Collection Point in Saskatoon, Sask.

When asked if something similar could be on its way for Kelowna, press officer Stephanie Kerr didn’t give too much away.

“We are continually reviewing expansion opportunities in Canada and how we can expand into new markets faster and become more accessible to our Canadian customers,” she explained. “As part of a coast-to-coast expansion effort which will double the store count from 12 to 24 in the next 10 years.

"IKEA Canada plans to expand into new and existing cities, with existing formats and also some new formats.”

Kerr wouldn’t give the names of next cities on Ikea’s expansion list.

For now, customers in Saskatchewan can get excited. They’ll be able to shop online for IKEA home furnishings and have them delivered to the Collection Point for $79, regardless of home much they spend or how big the package is. The average home delivery fee is $170, so pick-up locations can save customers major money.

"The Saskatoon Collection Point allows IKEA to immediately provide our customers with a more affordable shopping experience," said Ikea Canada acting president David McCabe.

Saskatoon is home to the country's second Collection Point. The first opened in Halifax in July 2016.

The company also announced a new, full-size IKEA store for Halifax, scheduled to open in Fall 2017.
