Kelowna has landed on a list as one of the 17 greenest cities in Canada.

The list, which Expedia.ca featured on its travel blog, highlights what it calls the “greenest and cleanest” cities in Canada.

The 17 cities appear in no particular order, but sharing the title with Kelowna are three other British Columbia cities: Vancouver, Powell River and the District of Saanich.

Kelowna was highlighted in part for an AirGenius Awards assessment putting it among the top two cities in Canada with the cleanest air.

It was also recognized for “working on becoming one of the first sustainable communities in Canada,” with the city’s goals to contain urban growth, improve energy use in buildings and protect at-risk natural habitats getting the nod.

Vancouver got props for being the first major city to approve 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050, and committing to being a zero waste city by 2040.

Calgary got the nod for its emphasis on water conservation, Montreal for its eco-friendly metro cars and green buildings, while Red Deer was recognized for its Pollinator Parks.

The complete list of all 17 cities also includes: Whitehorse, Edmonton, Greater Sudbury, Okotoks, Aurora, Cornwall, North Battleford, Muskoka and Devon.
