Five of the most engaging speakers in their field will be in Kelowna this month for a panel discussion as part of The Gratitude Project.
The UBC Okanagan School of Social Work is hosting a panel discussion called Is Gratitude A Pathway to Happiness? on Oct. 13 from 7 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. at the Rotary Centre for the Arts.
The free event will focus on gratitude and its importance to well-being and happiness
UBC Social Work and Psychology Professors will discuss and answer audience questions on various aspects of gratitude.
Panel member Mark Holder, an Associate Professor at the UBC, is known for studying the science of happiness. He currently leads a research team that is identifying factors that contribute to happiness in children in Canada, India and Zambia.
Did we mention he gave a TEDx talk and is a TV and radio mainstay?
Panelist Judy Gillespie, an Associate Professor in the School of Social Work at UBC, studies the role of communities and how that plays into well-being.
Kelowna’s own Brian Rasmussen will also be on the panel. He has over 25 years of clinical experience and runs a private practise in the city. He is also an adjunct associate professor at Smith College School for Social Work in Northampton, Massachusetts where he teaches clinical social work theory.
The last panelist, Holli-Anne Passmore, studied Psychological Science. Her research focuses on well-being, with a particular focus on Meaning in Life and on the beneficial effects of nature involvement.
Mediator John Graham, director of the School of Social Work, will be on hand for the talk.
