A burning tractor trailer shut down part of Harvey Avenue for close to an hour late last night.

Steve Wallick, a platoon captain with the Kelowna Fire Department, said the fire happened at around 10:40 p.m. last night, near the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Richter Street.

Wallick said a commercial tri-axle trailer caught fire in the middle of the road, but could not confirm the cause of the fire.

He said the highway was blocked for about 40 minutes as fire crews attended and put out the fire. Four firefighters attended the scene, along with Kelowna RCMP.

Wallick admitted that closing the main road through town is inconvenient, but that it was necessary for the safety of the firefighters.

There were no reported injuries related to the fire.
