In Kelowna, we have every reason to be grateful, which is why we decided to take part in The Gratitude Project. We wanted to be a platform for recognizing all we have to be thankful for, everyday, for 30 days. So many local businesses show gratitude by giving back in Kelowna, here are just a few of them who doing what they can to help our community.
Nourish
When Nourish opened two and a half years ago, owner Nick Gowing said they wanted to donate their tips and eventually decided on the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank.
“I know someone who, a long time ago, relied on the Food Bank to feed their family, so I wanted to give back,” he said.
In that short time, they’ve raised a whopping $36,000!
One Cup at a Time
One Cup at a Time introduced their pending coffee program just over a year ago, allowing customers to buy a coffee for someone in need by paying for it, and putting a sticker up on the board for someone to take later.
Just the other day, one lady bought 30 coffee and muffin combos to put up on the board. Talk about generosity.
Little Straw Winery
Not only is the wine at Little Straw Winery divine, but they also make regular donations to a local charity. If you pop into the winery for a wine tasting, your tasting fee (which you set) is donated to the Central Okanagan Community Food Bank. Cheers!
Dunn Enzies
A local favourite when it comes to pizza, Dunn Enzies encourages the community to do their part by pre-paying for a tasty slice.
Starting last fall, they initiated a pay-it-forward campaign, allowing customers to buy an extra slice and put up a sticky note on the board, which people in need can take from. In less than a year, they’ve sold over $4,000 in extra slices.
Pomme Salon
When the team at Pomme Salon isn’t creating hair masterpieces, they are thinking about the Kelowna community.
Pomme Salon enjoys giving back as they donate their styling services to various local charities targeted towards women and children. The team at the salon recently joined up with Mamas for Mamas to donate some of their fabulous hair styling services.
