Two people were taken to hospital last night after a car crash at a busy Kelowna intersection.
Kelowna firefighters had to extract one of the drivers from his burning Chevrolet Impala, after police say he drove through a yellow light and hit another driver, late on Oct. 21.
Cst. Jesse O’Donaghey says Kelowna RCMP also responded to the collision, which happened at 7:16 p.m. at the intersection of Harvey Avenue and Dilworth Drive.
O’Donaghey said early indications indicate the driver of the Impala was travelling west on Harvey when he drove through a yellow light, colliding with a grey Toyota pickup that had turned left into his path.
The impact caused the truck to flip onto its roof, and the Impala to smash into a light standard at the intersection.
Both the 20-year-old Kelowna man driving the Impala and a 34-year-old woman riding in the truck were taken to hospital with what police believe were non-life-threatening injuries. The Toyota’s driver was also assessed by paramedics at the scene.
O’Donaghey said the investigation into the crash is ongoing, but no charges have been laid. He asks anyone who saw the crash to contact Cst. Troy Bevan of the Kelowna RCMP Municipal Traffic Section at 250-980-5353.
