The ice rink at Stuart Park opened for another holiday season on Thursday morning.

‘Rink closed’ signs were lifted shortly before 10 a.m. and skaters slowly made their way onto the rink for their first outdoor skate of the season.

“The rink opening up always marks the beginning of my holiday celebrations,” said Kelowna resident, Kate Knox. “It’s a fun tradition.”

People of all ages were out to enjoy the first day of skating, kicking off the sixth season that the City of Kelowna has offered the opportunity for residents to take an outdoor skate downtown.

Weather permitting, the rink will be open until late February, which means there’s plenty of time to strap on the skates and go for a spin.
