It’s been five days since one Okanagan family last saw their dog, Buck, and they have put up $1,000 reward in hopes of getting him back.
Cody Walsh lives on a large property on Evans Road near Oyama. His 3-year-old black lab usually wanders away for an hour or two and then returns, until this time.
"When he didn't come back, obviously (he was) panicked that he had ran away and got lost or that he had ran away and someone had taken him,” said Kelsey Kashluba, a close family friend of Walsh’s.
Kashluba said Buck was wearing a blue collar with a silver tag on it and he’s microchipped, so if he’s found and taken to a vet, they will be able to find his home.
Buck is very friendly, according to Kashluba, who explained that he can be a bit standoffish with some men.
"He's just honestly the sweetest dog you'll ever meet. So not having him around has been really hard,” she said.
In sharing their story, Walsh and Kashluba are hoping people will share it on social media to get the word out.
There have been some possible sightings but nothing has panned out so far.
In hopes of motivating people, they have also put up $1,000 as a reward, with $500 of it generously donated by a community member.
"Even if you took him, bring him back. You can have $1,000 no questions asked, we just want him home safely,” Kashluba said.
While some negative thoughts about what happened to Buck have crossed their mind, Kashluba said they are trying to stay positive.
"We're struggling now, because it's day five, and we just really need to get him home,” she said. "A dog is part of your family and you love them so much and when you think about it, he's not getting dinner and it's cold out and where is he sleeping and if somebody took him is he OK?
“I think there is a lot of fear around it but we're just really, really trying to stay super hopeful right now because honestly, hope is kind of all we have.”
