Athletes and volunteers honoured at 2017 Community Sport Hero Awards

The community came together on Wednesday night for the 2017 Community Sport Hero Awards at the Mary Irwin Theatre.

In total, 10 athletes and 10 volunteers were honoured for their contributions to the local sports community.

The volunteers honoured were Lonnie Kam, Karen Quigley, Gary Crowe, Gord McInnes, Susan Foisy, Matt Briscoe, Robert LaRue, Jannik Eikenaar, Jenni Rubuliak and Bruce Corrie.

The athletes honoured Jared LeFranc, Sierra Kakuno, Jaedyn Andreotti, Daria Carr, Elijah Risso, Michael Bitcon, Nathan Beauchemin, Gareth Williams, Mason Bourcier and Brittney Page.

Page was also the keynote speaker for the evening.

The reception also took time to acknowledge and congratulate the Okanagan based athletes that competed in last summer’s Olympic and Paralympic games in Rio de Janiero.

Finally, the evening was capped off with a send-off for Kelowna athletes that will be heading to the International Children’s Games.
