A driver who lost control of his vehicle close to UBCO Thursday night could be facing charges.

Just before 10:30 p.m. RCMP report that a Kelowna man was witnessed driving his Nissan sedan well past the 80km/hr speed limit.

Witnesses report that the driver hit a median in the highway and spun 180 degrees before the car stopped working. The driver then exited his vehicle and began to flee the scene after failing to restart the car.

The driver was then located by the RCMP with the assistance of witnesses. The police detained him after finding evidence of Alcohol Impairment.

The driver was uninjured and provided breath samples that revealed he was driving at almost twice the legal limit.

According to Traffic Investigator Constable Steve Holmes, it was fortunate the driver hit a median and not a vehicle.

“This incident clearly demonstrates the dangers of driving while impaired”, said Holmes. “It was fortunate he only hit a median and not another vehicle or vehicles.”
