The first step in approving construction of the complex will mean council being asked to rezone the two properties from agricultural to a municipal district park zone.

A future public hearing will be needed to approve rezoning, but if granted construction on Phase 1 of the project will be able to start.

Phase 1 will include the establishment of farmland buffers, fencing, an attenuation pond for site stormwater, road dedication, underground utilities and gravel surfacing of the road, is scheduled to begin later this year.

Phase 2, expected in 2018 with budget approval, would include constructing the playing fields on the southern half of the property, completing the roadway paving, and lighting.

Once completed, the complex is expected to include grass and artificial turf sportsfields, sports courts, basketball courts, a spray park, playground, a two storey activity centre and fieldhouse.
