It's that mucky, transitional time of year. It's not yet spring or summer and the weather is basically having an identity crisis.
Since the beach is still thawing, what better way to spend a weekend then go for a drive and explore the hidden gems beyond Kelowna.
1. Sorrento
Sorrento sits just north of Salmon Arm and less than two hours from Kelowna.
It's home to the Dream Motorcycle Museum, Mount Baldy Trail, Music in the Bay and Crannog Ale.
The mountain bike trails in Sorrento are a hidden gem as well.
2. Rock Creek
This little gem is an hour and 45 minutes south of Kelowna off highway 33.
There's plenty of scenic spots to pitch a tent or hike, whether it's the Kettle River Recreation Area or Johnstone Creek Provincial Park.
Be sure to stop at the antique shop, Rags, Relics and Rutabagas. If you happen to see the caretaker of this unique spot, Pat Pownell, be sure to say hi.
She's likely to give you a good, historical run-down on the area too!
3. Princeton
Even if you come just for the food, Princeton puts you at an hour and 53 minutes from Kelowna.
Cowboy Coffee/Coco's Bistro boasts fresh, baked goods and delicious coffee. On top of that, the Princeton Museum is bound to provide amble history on the robust mining industry of this town.
If it's scenic views, hiking or camping you're looking for, check out Swan Lake Bird Sanctuary and the China Ridge Trails. The Provincial Parks are beautiful as well, but may not be open just yet.
4. Quilchena
Quilchena is a diamond in the rough for cowboys and cowgirls at heart. The Quilchena Hotel was established in 1908 and is still owned and operated by a descendant of the original founder, Joseph Guichon.
This hotel sits in the heart of one of B.C. largest working cattle ranches.
Go for the scenery or, take a ride on the wild side.
5. Enderby
The drive to Enderby puts you in at an hour and 10 minutes.
It's not quite drive-in movie weather yet, but there's plenty to do in Enderby.
Hungry Jack's is a superb dinner to hit for a nice late, morning breakfast.
Better yet, reward yourself with Hungry Jack's after hiking the Enderby Cliffs.
It's a steep one and will take about two hours to complete, but the views are stunning.
If you've not seen the goats at the Log Barn in Armstrong, well it's a nice way to break up the drive and pet a new friend.
