Days are getting longer, temperatures are getting warmer and Arrowleaf Balsamroot flowers are beginning to light up the Okanagan hillsides.
The Arrowleaf Balsam Root, also known as the Balsamorhiza sagittata, is the official flower of Kelowna.
The flower is drought tolerant, difficult to propagate and enjoys sandy soil.
During each Spring, whether you’re out for a stroll or a hike, the bright yellow flowers of the Arrowleaf Balsamroot are difficult to miss.
A great hilltop that’s easy to access and covered in these flowers is Dilworth Mountain Park.
To get to the park, head north on Glenmore Drive and make a right on Summit Drive. From there, head up to the Dilworth Mountain subdivision and take a right on Chilcotin Crescent where you will see the park off to your right as you make your way up the hill.
The 128.1-hectare park is dog-friendly - as long as a leash is used - and offers an array of immersing nature trails as well as some stunning views of downtown Kelowna.
