A 26-year-old man was found dead inside a small Kelowna park on the outskirts of downtown this morning.

Police were called to Knowles Heritage Park at the corner of Ethel Street and Lawrence Avenue around 7:30 am.

Upon arrival, officers verified that the young man, a local resident, was dead.

The BC Coroners Service attended the scene and has taken over the investigation.

Police confirmed the man’s identification and have notified his family, who are receiving support from Kelowna RCMP Victim Services at this time.

“It’s a tragedy to lose a young person in our community,” said Cst. Mike Della-Paolera. “We continue to advocate for the need for increased health and support services in our community.”

Anyone who was in the area prior to 7:30 am and may have information to assist the investigation is urged to contact the BC Coroners Service.

There will be no further police investigation and the RCMP says there is no ongoing risk or concern for the safety of the public.
