Kelowna RCMP needed a team effort in order to catch two suspects on Friday.
According to police, officers with the Target Team observed a suspicious grey Chevrolet Suburban in the Rutland area. This vehicle was reported stolen overnight following a residential break and enter.
During the break-in, the suspects also made off with a grey Chevy Silverado pickup truck.
Investigators followed the suspect vehicle to the Postill Lake Forest Service Road. RCMP Air and Police Dog Services were both called in to help get the vehicle to a safe stop.
“The vehicle attempted to evade police and investigators deployed a tire deflation device,” said Cst. Solana Paré. “As the vehicle continued to flee, the driver allegedly attempted to drive into a plainclothes officer at the scene, who was able to move out of the way to safety.”
The vehicle continued down the road as long as it could before it was inoperable.
At this point, the male driver exited and fled on a bike while the female passenger ran away. The man was found resisting arrest so multiple officers were needed to subdue him.
Police dogs found the woman hiding, which led to her safe arrest. Thankfully, no one was injured during the incident.
The bicycle the man was riding was also found to be stolen on Tuesday. Investigators recovered the Chevy Silverado from another residence a short time later.
Both the 33-year-old man and woman, who were Kelowna residents, are being held in police custody on numerous pending charges. The investigation is ongoing.
