The City of Kelowna has announced what it plans to do with a Dougall Road property it purchased last May.
The Rutland property will be the site of a new 33-unit affordable housing development for families.
“Families in Kelowna can have a hard time finding suitable, affordable homes,” said Mayor Colin Basran. “So this project is a great addition to the kind of housing options people in the lower to middle-income ranges need.”
Last week, BC housing announced it’s approval of the City of Kelowna’s application to partner on on project.
The City will provide the land, which is valued at $1.4 million, while BC housing will contribute $3.3 million to the development.
“Our Healthy Housing Strategy identified the need to build up our housing options in affordable housing types between single-family market housing and supported housing,” Basran added. “This is a great step in that direction.”
BC Housing will also work with the City on a Request for Proposals for a community group to manage the building.
