Canada is a melting pot of people from all over the world and that will be on full display in Kelowna this weekend.
The Canadian Association of Nigerian Physicians and Dentists (CANPAD) has chosen the Okanagan as the spot for its 18th annual general meeting of members.
That means more than 400 physicians and dentists originally from Nigeria, along with their families and a number of Nigerian dignitaries, will be in town for the four-day event.
Guests won’t just be stuck in a conference room the entire time, as there are plans to introduce these visitors to a number of local attractions.
That includes the Kettle Valley Railway, a ladies night, activities for kids, time at the beach, park hikes and a catered picnic with a soccer game at the Parkinson Recreation field on Sunday.
“We are excited to introduce our beautiful home, Kelowna, to the members of CANPAD,” said Dr. Toye Oyelese, a well-known local physician who is organizing and hosting this event.
“Kelowna is still a hidden gem that more professionals should know about.”
The conference will culminate with a red carpet gala at the Delta Grand on Sunday night, which will include awards, traditional First Nations dances and a DJ.
CANPAD will also be presenting donations to the Kelowna Women’s Shelter and Canadian Mental Health Association.
Formed in 2001, CANPAD is a not-for-profit association that currently has more than 4,000 members.
