Arts on the Avenue took over two blocks of Bernard Avenue this evening to make way for Okanagan residents looking to enjoy talented local artisans.

The event welcomed a variety of mediums related to visual arts, including live performances, hands-on community art projects and of course, the opportunity for everyone to shop locally.

KelownaNow was able to explore a variety of different artistic styles, alongside live music and plenty of community spirit that was offered by the free event.

Celebrating its fourth year running, Arts of the Avenue is a one day art-inspired event that takes place from 4 p.m. to 10:00 p.m every year.

"It's a good five months of planning, putting out the applications in March and the artists fill them out and we do a jury selection to make sure that the art is original," said Donna Klassen, program assistant and one of the organizers of the event.

"To see the vendors happy and successful is our main goal, if the vendors are happy then we are happy," said Klassen.

The interaction between local vendors, artists, musicians and attendees makes Arts of the Avenue one of the more exceptional ways to spend a beautiful summer evening in Kelowna.
