The View Winery and Vineyard is hosting its 5th annual Wards Ciders and Sliders Festival. From 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, head to the winery for an exciting day full of music, games, food and, of course, refreshing ciders. Tickets will be $30 per person and each ticket comes with 10 tokens so you can try a variety of drinks.

“For those with a new interest in cider, it will be an eye opener,” said Jennifer Molgat, President of The View Winery and Vineyard. “With so many different styles to try, this is the event that will turn you into a craft cider fan.”

The cideries that will be featured at the festival include Wards Cider, Howling Moon Craft Cider, Sea Cider Farm and Ciderhouse, Truck 59 Ciderhouse, Scenic Road Cider Co., Merridale Cider and finally, the BC Tree Fruits Cider Co. With so many to choose from, you will discover your new favourite!

“It’s a rare chance for us to come together to celebrate the rising interest in cider,” said Molgat. “We believe that, like the wine industry, cideries benefit from each others’ success and collective energy in the marketplace.”

Not only are cider festivals a perfect opportunity to try new flavours and learn more about these yummy drinks, they’re also a great way to support local cideries — it’s the least we can do after all the delicious cider they provide for us.

Relvas Catering and the Broken Anchor will be offering some scrumptious eats during the festival — delectable gourmet sliders await! For the pie-lovers out there, Shuswap Pie Company is bringing mouthwatering, home baked pies. Try a slice, or two, or three, don’t keep count, we don’t judge — there are whole pies that you can take home after the festival as well.

“This year’s event is going to be out in the orchard,” said Molgat. “There is something magical when you get a chance to enjoy a cider between the orchard rows.”

Enjoy tasty ciders, exquisite sliders and home baked pies while playing games and listening to The Southern Belles — a band that is sure to get you moving with their funky country vibe. There are lots of different games planned for the festival in the orchard such as an amazing axe-throwing experience from Axe Monkeys. You’ll be surprised at how well you do!

“Wards Cider is located in South East Kelowna on a 5th generation, family owned orchard overlooking Kelowna and Okanagan Lake,” said Molgat. “The original apple trees were planted 100 years ago around the time the property was settled.”

What better place is there to celebrate cider than at one of the pioneering orchards in the Okanagan? The festival will be on Saturday, August 24 from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. at The View Winery and Vineyard. Tickets are $30 per person and includes 10 tokens, so grab yours today!
