Interior Health with the City of Kelowna has given the 'OK' to swim at its six test sites for Kelowna beaches along Okanagan Lake.
This week, the water was tested at the following six beaches including, Boyce Gyro, City Park, Rotary Park, Sarsons Beach, Strathcona Park and Tugboat Bay at Waterfront Park and all were deemed "acceptable" for swimming.
It's important to note that only six beaches are tested for Kelowna and all of the tests came back saying it was safe to swim.
However, IH still gives a reminder that there is potential risk of encountering contaminants and infectious agents in recreational water.
"Recent flood activity has brought with it a high level of organic material into the lake which can allow for the growth of bacteria, parasites and algae," said Patrick Gall, communications consultant for Interior Health.
Both local and regional governments are responsible for bacteriological beach testing in the Okanagan.
Water testing from swimming areas of select beaches occurs on a weekly basis. Samples are sent to labs for testing and the results are then sent to Interior Health.
"If the results exceed the guidelines, IH consults with local government about posting a notification at the beach," said Gall.
Because bodies of water are always flowing and changing, the public is advised to exercise caution.
All the tests came back 'acceptable' for beaches in West Kelowna as well.

Gall also warned swimmers to check for potential rashes after swimming that could be caused by algae blooms or an allergic reaction to parasites commonly known as Swimmers Itch.
"Swimmers Itch is uncomfortable but usually clears up on its own in a few days," he stated.
