(UPDATE: July 3 @ 7:17 am) – One man has been arrested following a fatal UTV rollover on Spion Kop Mountain in Lake Country.
Lake Country RCMP are now investigating the crash that occurred in the early hours of Saturday.
At about 4:15 am, police received the report of the rollover. They received assistance from the Lake Country Fire Department, BC Ambulance Service, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) and Kelowna RCMP Forensic Identification Services.
When the teams arrived on scene, they located the passenger, a 34-year-old man, who had succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.
“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family at this difficult time,” stated a spokesperson for the Lake Country RCMP.
Meanwhile, the driver, another 34-year-old man, was arrested at the scene for alleged impaired operation causing death and was transported to the hospital for minor injuries.
The RCMP say the driver is possibly facing charges related to his arrest and the investigation is ongoing.
The BC Coroners Service is now conducting their own investigation of the incident.
No other details have been provided at this time due to the privacy of the deceased and their relations, explain the RCMP.
(Original Story: July 2 @ 2:47 pm) – An UTV rollover accident has left one person dead and another with a head injury Saturday morning.
A number of emergency personnel responded to the Spion Kop trails in Lake Country during the early hours of July 2 for the report of a fatal UTV rollover.
Two subjects were driving a small side-by-side Razor UTV when it flipped.
One was pronounced deceased at the scene and the other was transported to Kelowna General Hospital for treatment of their injuries.
No details have been provided at this time about either persons’ identity or the extent of the injuries sustained by the living individual.
According to Duane Tresnich, Central Okanagan Search and Rescue manager, the team received the call for assistance at about 5 am.
Tresnich confirms that 12 COSAR members responded to the incident.
The Lake Country RCMP and fire department and paramedics responded as well.
Due to the nature of the incident, Tresnich was unable to provide any other additional information.
