A new Okanagan Chapter of eWomenNetwork is expected to open next year - providing assistance to women hoping to enter a field in business.

"According to the Small Business Association, women are starting businesses at three times the rate of men in Kelowna and account for more than two-thirds of the job market," said Heather Sharpe, managing director of eWomenNetwork for the Okanagan.

The eWomenNetwork aims to help women with networking and accessing resources among other professionals.

"Now, more than ever, women realize that networking is a vital business skill," said Sandra Yancey, founder and CEO of Dallas-based eWomenNetwork.

According to StatsCan, the number of self-employed women in Canada has grown dramatically over the past two decades. Meanwhile, rates among self-employed men have stayed consistent - seeing slight growth since 2007.

There are currently 118 eWomenNetwork chapters throughout North America, each offering monthly Accelerated Networking events and various workshops.

The network was founded in 2000 and will hold its first strategic business introduction event in Kelowna on Jan. 30, 2018.

Attendance is limited to the first 12 applicants.
