Plenty of people have been anxiously awaiting the day when public pools reopen in Kelowna and that begins next week.

The pools at the Kelowna Family Y and H2O Adventure + Fitness Centre will reopen to the public on Monday, Aug. 10.

“We are excited to offer this valued service to our community once again starting next week,” says Kelley Taylor from the YMCA.

“Our pools don’t only provide a place for family fun; many of our members rely on pool activity as their only source of exercise.”

Aquatic offerings at both pools will include open swim time, lane swimming and Aquafit classes.

The YMCA is encouraging people to get back in the water if they feel comfortable, as a return to health exercise and community connection is much-needed for many.

“We recognize that these past months have taken a toll on all of us,” says Taylor.

“The lack of social connection and disruption of regular routines and habits has increased feelings of isolation and loneliness and has resulted in a significant reduction in physical activity for many.”

Taylor assures that the YMCA has taken every precaution when it comes to reopening the two pools, which includes following recommendations from the Lifesaving Society and provincial health authority.
