Tonics has been dethroned.

Caesar Week 2023 has come and gone and new champions have been crowned in Kelowna, Calgary and Winnipeg.

After Tonics won the inaugural competition in 2022, this year’s winner was determined to be West Coast Grill & Oyster Bar and their West Coast Grand Caesar.

The winning drink had one ounce of Sombra mezcal, one ounce of Ampersand gin, teriyaki sauce, Vietnamese fish sauce, onion pickled juice, Worcestershire sauce, horseradish, Chinese chili sauce and Clamato juice.

It was garnished with celery, red and yellow pepper, cheese, sausage, pickled onion, a dehydrated lime slice, deep-fried pickles, deep-fried prawns, green beans, olivers and chili flakes on the rim.

All of that in a glass cost $25.

Caesar Week 2023 ran in three cities from May 14-21 and winners were determined by public votes.

The Wood Tavern won in Winnipeg with their Backyard BBQ Caesar, which was garnished with corn, a pulled pork slider, ribs, prawns and a veggie kabob.

It was the second Caesar Week win for The Wood Tavern, as they won in 2021 when the festivities only took place in Winnipeg before expanding to Calgary and Kelowna in 2022.

In Calgary this year, Codo Agave Social House won with their Mole Caesar, which was garnished with a chicken taco, baja fish taco, pickles and red peppers.

We can’t wait to see what Caesar Week organizers and all participating establishments have in store for next year’s competition!
