Kelowna City Council has voted to grant a development permit for another supportive housing project in Rutland.
The 50-unit facility will be built on a vacant lot at the corner of McIntosh Road and Asher Road.
With the required zoning already in place, the discussion was supposed to stick to questions about the form and design of the building, but Dawn Heimer of the John Howard Society, which will operate the building, was asked questions about staffing levels.
Heimer reassured Council that there would be a minimum of two staff members in the building at all times.
The development comes on the heels of the recently approved 39-unit McCurdy Road project, where intense public pressure led to changes in how the Canadian Mental Health Association plans to operate it.
After a short discussion, council approved the McIntosh Road facility development permit application with Councillors Hodge, Singh and DeHart opposed.
