The sexual assault case against former Kelowna Mayor Colin Basran has been moved to May 16 at 9:30 am for arraignment.

After a hearing via-video at the Kelowna Law Courts Tuesday, the case is being delayed, once again.

Lawyers for the crown and defence say there are still issues of the sharing of evidence to be resolved in the case before they can be ready to proceed.

The alleged incident took place on May 11, 2022, while Basran was still sitting as Mayor.

Little is publicly known about the nature of the alleged assault, but the Crown is proceeding against Basran by indictment rather than by summary.

That usually means the offence is toward the more serious end of the spectrum.
