Just before 3 pm the Kelowna Fire Department received multiple calls of a residential fire in the Black Mountain area.

A black plume of smoke could be seen coming from the side of the mountain, and was later confirmed to be the exterior of a garage roof in the 1000 block of Bramble Court.

When the first fire team arrived they were able to quickly extinguish the blaze, three engines, rescue vehicles and a command unit also responded to the scene.

Fortis Gas, Electric, RCMP and BCAS also assisted.

One male construction worker was treated at the scene and transported to Kelowna General Hospital for medical treatment due to the burns he received on his hands.

The fire has been deemed accidental in nature, and damages were contained to the garage portion of the single-family dwelling.

The Kelowna Fire Department added: “Working smoke alarms do save lives and property.”
