The latest piece of Kelowna’s rapidly growing skyline will break ground next week.
Mayor Colin Basran and others will be on hand for the ceremony, which will officially kick off construction of Brooklyn on Bernard.
Located in the spot that was formerly home to the Bargain Store, on the corner of Bernard Avenue and St. Paul Street, Brooklyn will feature 25-storey and 178 units.
While most of it will be residential, the bottom four-storeys of the building will be for commercial use.
The high-rise will feature one and two bedroom homes between 491 and 1,034 square feet, with prices beginning in the mid $300,000s.
It’s the first of three proposed towers that will make up an urban village planned for this downtown location.
It’ll also be home to Kelowna’s highest rooftop lounge, but it’ll be solely for residents and not for the public to enjoy.
Brooklyn is six storeys higher than the City of Kelowna’s current 19-storey limit for downtown buildings, but City Council granted the project a height variance back in August.
