Rescuers had a “long long weekend” in the Central Okanagan as residents enjoyed the fine weather.
They spent three days searching for a cliff diver who went missing at Squally Point.
The man, a 33-year-old Albertan, is now presumed dead.
On Sunday, the Central Okanagan Search and Rescue (COSAR) teams were given two jobs within the space of 20 minutes.
First they were asked to help after reports came in of a boat sinking with 10 people aboard off Prichard Drive in West Kelowna.
But rescuers were called off after a follow-up message explained that everyone on the vessel had made it to shore.
A few minutes later, though, COSAR was called about a severely injured ATV rider in the hills above West Kelowna, near Bear Lake.
The man had seriously hurt his arm and his friends were concerned for his safety.
A helicopter and 20 ground crew were deployed.
Just before dusk – when the helicopter would be forced to land – the man was rescued and flown to an ambulance, which took him to Kelowna General Hospital.
