Today was a big day for anyone who works in the radio industry across Canada.

It was ratings day.

Based on a two month period between the start of September and the end of October, every radio station in Canada is rated based on Numeris surveys that are mailed out.

In Kelowna, the results once again pegged CBC at the top, which is usually the case, with a 17.5% share.

A share is the estimated total hours that people in the region tuned into that station, expressed as a percentage.

When it came to private companies, however, it was a pair of Jim Pattison-owned stations that claimed top spot in this fall’s ratings for the second year in a row.

Beach Radio earned 13.1% of the share, while Power came in at 10.8%.

The only other station to hit double digits was EZ Rock, who received 10% of the listening share this year.

Close behind was New Country 100.7 at 9.8%, Castanet’s Soft 103.9 at 8%, K96 at 7.3% and AM1150 at 5.2%.

The biggest surprise of this set of ratings would be the former Sun FM, which rebranded as 99.9 Virgin Radio in the middle of ratings period, pulling up the rear with a 4.4% share.
