The campfire ban that has been in place since June 30 for the Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) has been lifted.

Recent showers and cooler temperatures have lowered the potential fire threat to moderate.

As a reminder, campfires are not permitted at any time within the City of Kelowna.

Campfires are once again allowed within the RDCO fire protection areas (Ellison, Joe Rich, North Westside, Wilson’s Landing), the City of West Kelowna and Westbank First Nation reserves #9 and #10, District of Lake Country and District of Peachland.

The RDCO reminds residents that anyone having a campfire must ensure the fire is attended all times, have tools on hand to contain the fire and ensure it is fully extinguished.

Residents are reminded that smoking is not allowed in any RDCO regional park or municipal parks and motorists are reminded not to throw cigarettes or smoking material from their vehicle.

The District of Peachland reminds its residents that smoking is not allowed in children’s parks, sports fields, undeveloped parks and wilderness trails.

Most areas in the Central Okanagan do not allow the use of fireworks but are allowed in Lake Country and West Kelowna with written permission from the fire chief.
