This year's "Celebrate Canada Day-Kelowna" festival may have a little less sizzle during the evening, as the fireworks have been postponed to the B.C. Long Weekend.

The decision was made due to the flooding and damage that has incurred along the Okanagan Lake waterfront.

"Canada Day is a special day for our community and for us, so this decision to postpone our fireworks display was a tough call to make," said Renata Mills Executive Director, Festivals Kelowna.

"The safety of the public and the quality of their experience at the festival was top of mind in all our discussion as we considered our options. Because our lakefront parks still need time to get back to their best condition, and given the tens of thousands of people that come down to enjoy the fireworks display, we felt it was best to postpone to a date when the conditions were more conducive to welcoming such large crowds and ensuring a more positive experience."

The Coast Capital Savings Canada Day Fireworks presented by Tolko and the City of Kelowna will take place on Saturday, August 5th at 9:30 p.m.

"After all Canada 150 is a year-long celebration and we're Canadians all year-round, so let's keep this celebration going well into our summer."

More information about the fireworks will become available leading up to the show. The fireworks will be shot from the Tolko barge and the display will be choreographed to music representative of Canada from East to West.
