Local independent coffee company, Canoe Coffee Roasters, unleashed some exciting news over the weekend.

Following a great two years at their first cozy brick and mortar space on High Road, the specialty roaster and cafe has expanded. They now occupy a new and larger space at 984 Laurel Avenue.

In a recent Facebook post, the crew behind Canoe have expressed their gratitude toward the community following their soft opening on Saturday.

“Your support is the reason that we get to do what we love every day, and we are so excited to share our passion for fine a** coffee with such excellent people!” reads the post.

Not only can locals expect a trendy yet inviting space that is perfect for socializing and amping up your Insta feed, but more delicious home-baked goods, and of course, copious amounts of java.

According to co-owner, David Upshaw, seeing his new vision come to life was a dream come true.

"Seeing this space finally open was like watching years of dreaming actually come to life! When we started Canoe three years ago it was such a tiny, pipe-dream operation and now we’ve grown into what we think is a pretty awesome local business with a really great band of loyal followers and friends who love our coffee as much as we do!" said Upshaw.

Over 500 people came in to show their support over the course of opening day, a sentiment Upshaw was "absolutely floored" by.

The larger space is not only beneficial to customers but Upshaw says it is a huge step for Canoe's wholesale program.

"We’ve also got a great new roasting space with a much larger new roasting machine coming in soon. This will allow us to expand our wholesale program and get our coffee out more widely."

"We’re really proud of the way we treat our beans, roasting along custom and uniquely tailored profiles to really get the most out of each varietal we bring in, so we just want to share as much as we can," added Upshaw

Don’t worry if you missed out on the festivities of opening day, the roastery is back for round two of welcomes on Monday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., before taking Tuesday off to work out some of the kinks.
