The City of Kelowna is looking for feedback and public engagement about a new activity centre in Rutland

Earlier this week, the city approved the 10-year capital plan, which includes investment for a new activity centre in Rutland.

According to the city, the activity centre will be located beside Lions Park.

“The new centre will add to the existing active amenities in Rutland which currently includes the Rutland Activity Centre and the Rutland Family Y, and be designed to support vital community needs including social gatherings, events, celebrations, and potential childcare spaces – along with sport, leisure, and fitness programs,” the city said in a news release.

Kelowna's 10 year capital plan, which totals over $2 billion, dedicates $23 million to the Rutland Activity Centre.

Robert Parlane, parks and building planning manager, said the city is actively seeking feedback, ideas and concerns to help design and build the facility so it fits the neighbourhood’s needs.

Rutland residents can now visit the city’s website to complete a survey and share a picture of how they would use the space.

Online input is being collected until Sept. 29.

Additionally, city staff will be on site of the annual Scarecrow Festival to provide information about the centre, collect input and connect with residents, the release said.

The festival is happening at the Lions Park, located at 175 Gray Rd., on Sept. 21 from 11 am to 3 pm.
