The massive final two buildings of the Bernard Block development will be considered by city council on June 2.

Three development permits and two variance allowances are up for approval, all of which have a recommendation of support from city staff.

The first development permit is for the project’s 34-storey residential tower that will also require a height variance to be approved as zoning along Bernard Avenue only allows for 26-storeys.

According to design plans, the building will accommodate 257 residential units, a rooftop pool, community garden, outdoor sports area and main floor shared workspace.

Also up for approval is the development permit for the project’s 17-storey office tower that will be located on the northeast corner of the Bernard Avenue and St. Paul Street intersection.

The office tower will feature 85,000 square feet of “Class A” office space along with 16,000 square feet of retail storefront and dining space.

A third development permit for the four-storey parking podium at the base of Bertram Street will also be considered by council.

The second requested variance concerns the minimum number of bicycle parking stalls.

Council approved the phase one of the Bernard Block project, a 25-storey residential Brooklyn tower, in August 2018.
