The City of Kelowna has announced it will be adapting or suspending a number of services in response to BC's new public health orders.
On Thursday, Dr. Bonnie Henry announced that the new orders that limit social gatherings non essential travel, exercise classes and more, will remain in effect until Dec. 7.
Effective immediately, the following adaptations to respective services will be made in Kelowna:
Recreation & sport
- No spectators are allowed at sporting or recreation activities at this time. This includes both City-run sports leagues and programs and local sport organization bookings. Sport organizations will be updating individual Return to Sport plans to share with participants to reflect this change in the near future.
- High intensity fitness programs offered through Kelowna’s Activity & Program Guide are cancelled for the next two weeks including Spin and HIIT classes. Current program participants will be notified directly, and any cancelled or impacted programs will be posted online at kelowna.ca/recreation in the days ahead.
- Some smaller events and/or bookings at City facilities such as Parkinson Recreation Centre may be impacted, and organizers will be notified directly.
- Facility guidelines and safety plans are in the process of being updated to reflect the latest Provincial orders and will be posted online in the days ahead.
Strict maximum capacities and pre-booking systems continue to be in place for recreation facilities and programs. For more information about safety guidelines and protocols in place for sport and recreation, visit kelowna.ca/recreation.
Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery
- Funeral bookings made through the Kelowna Memorial Park Cemetery will be limited to a maximum of 10 attendees (including officiant).
Kelowna Community Theatre
- The series of upcoming shows at the Kelowna Community Theatre in December will continue to be available but through livestream channels only. There will be no audience members allowed until further notice.
