The Regional District of Central Okanagan (RDCO) will be handing out compost bins and rain barrels this weekend to those who ordered them.

Pickup will take place on Saturday, April 27 for both Kelowna and Lake Country.

If you’re unable to attend, the RDCO requests that you please send someone on your behalf as units not picked up will be donated.

“Backyard composting is easy, rewarding, and something the whole family can get involved in,” says Rae Stewart, waste reduction facilitator.

“Imagine the satisfaction of making your own valuable soil enhancer for your garden, all from kitchen scraps and green matter from your yard, material you would otherwise just toss away!”

Stewart adds that one third to half of household waste is easily compostable.
