RCMP say that a concerned member of the general public "no doubt" prevented a violent crime early Wednesday evening when he took the time to call police to report a suspicious occurrence.

On April 17, 2019 at 5:17 p.m., RCMP were made aware of a suspicious set of circumstances involving individuals spotted inside a motor vehicle seen driving in the vicinity of the 700-block of Academy Way in Kelowna.

“Our frontline officers became very concerned when they learned that the vehicle occupants had seemingly taken steps to conceal their identity, and obstruct their vehicles licence plate,” states Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey spokesman for the Kelowna RCMP.

RCMP located the suspect vehicle in the area, and subsequently took three adult males into police custody without any incident. A number of items, that police believe could have been used as weapons, were seized from inside the vehicle.

“As a result of further investigation, RCMP have reason to believe that the three suspects had been prepared to carry out a criminal offence,” states RCMP Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey.

An 18-year-old West Kelowna man, an 18-year-old Kelowna man and 20-year-old Kelowna man were held in police custody overnight. They each face potential charges and are expected to appear in court today.

If you witnessed this incident or have any additional information and have not yet spoken to police you are asked to call the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
