Construction of a pair of towers that will change the landscape of downtown Kelowna will begin next week.

Mayor Colin Basran will be on hand for the groundbreaking, which will take place on next Tuesday at 2 p.m.

The first tower to be erected with be the 36-storey East Tower, which will be the tallest building between Vancouver and Calgary once completed.

So far, 190 homes have been sold in the East Tower since October, which has led to an accelerated start of sales for the West Tower. That will be announced at the groundbreaking on Tuesday.

Once both residential towers are completed, they’ll stretch 119 and 97 metres into the Okanagan sky, containing a total of 404 units.

The units will sit on top of a three-storey podium that will be masked by retail space and house close to 500 parking stalls.

In between the two towers, above the podium, will be “The Bench,” which will feature greenery, a dog park, two swimming pools, sports facilities and a multi-purpose amenity room.
