It was an expensive afternoon for nearly 50 law-breaking Kelowna drivers on Tuesday.
RCMP officers were out in a pair of locations, looking for drivers who were either driving without a seatbelt on or handling their electronic devices behind the wheel.
Apparently, those drivers weren’t hard to find.
“We issued 49 violation tickets,” said Sgt. Mark Booth. “Thirty-five for using an electronic device and 14 for failure to wear a seatbelt.”
Booth said that officers would be continuing this type of enforcement throughout the week, so “make sure you’re obeying the rules of the road.”
For first-time offenders, driving without a seatbelt costs $167, while handling an electronic device behind the wheel warrants a $368 fine and four demerit points.
