Kelowna city council has approved a new apartment building.
During a public hearing on Tuesday night, council unanimously gave the go ahead for the 4.5-storey, 40-unit project on the corner of Gordon Drive and Lawson Avenue.
Two properties, a vacated parking lot and a single-family home lot, were consolidated to the new building.
Having passed through the City of Kelowna's development process before parking requirements were changed in 2019, the project features 57 parking stalls.
Councilor Charlie Hodge, who lives in the area, was pleased to see the ample stalls as parking on backing alley has been an issue.
"Matching the stalls to the units, you don't see that often," said Hodge.
"I'm really happy to see this come forward, it's been an empty lot for quite a while."
A submerged parkade and a parking lot will accommodate the stalls.
Meanwhile, the building’s 40-units are comprised of 12 two-bedroom units, 16 one-bedroom units with den, four one-bedroom units and eight studio-sized units.
Bestowed with a walk score of 78, the project is considered "very walkable" as most errands can be accomplished on foot.
