Over 15 years ago, Ron Beahun was the original hire to develop and manage the Downtown On Call and Clean Team initiatives through the Downtown Kelowna Association (DKA).

Now, he’ll be saying goodbye to his role of Manager of On Street-Services as he heads into retirement at the end of the year.

But the legacy Beahun leaves behind will never be forgotten, as the “red shirts” and “blue shirts” will continue to be a familiar fixture in Downtown Kelowna.

Last year alone, the Downtown On Call team (red shirts) answered over 6,000 calls from DKA members.

On top of that, the team visits businesses throughout Downtown Kelowna when time allows, assists visitors with directions, and liaises with the RCMP and Bylaw services daily.

Clean Team members (blue shirts) move around downtown removing garbage, pressure washing and painting over graffiti daily.

"All these duties have been built into the program by Ron and we owe him an immense “thank you” for a job well done," said Mark Burley, Executive Director DKA.

"We will always value Ron's contribution to the Downtown Kelowna Association and our members."

With Ron’s retirement imminent, the DKA is pleased to announce that Brent Lobson will be joining the staff as Director of Operations.

Lobson will be spending the next two months working closely with Ron as he takes over the management of the two teams.

"Brent is a familiar face in Downtown Kelowna. As the Manager for Impark/Reef Parking, he has worked with many of our property and business owners over his 24+ years there," adds Burley.

"Brent has also served on the DKA Board of Directors for over 20 years and was on the committee that initiated and created the Downtown on Call and Clean Team initiatives. We welcome both his experience and depth of knowledge with respect to Downtown Kelowna to our staff.

Ron Beahun’s contributions to the DKA will be recognized at the Downtown After 5 event on Nov. 30 at the Laurel Packing House from 5-7 pm.
